ARCHBISHOP CARR AND THE LIQUOR QUESTION.

(To the Editor.) Sir, —The advent of Archbishop Carr, of Melbourne, into the drink question, is one of great possibilities. We know of the powerful influence exerted for the national good in the United States by Cardinal Gibbons, Archbishop Spalding, and many other eminent Catholic prelates on this question. Why should not Australia follow their example? Surely drink is one of those luxuries which might be dispensed with at present. There should be some legislation dealing with the supply of liquor to those whose generous natures would lead them to death itself—the brave young manhood of our country.—l am, etc., SHANE O'DALA.
