ORDER OF RECHABITES.

DISTRICT'S AJraUAL MEETING.

The annual meeting of tie : district council of the Independent prdefc pf. Keehabites -was held, in :fche large hall of the St; John Ambulance Society;.Rut-' land . Street, on Tuesday. The Deputy High Chief Ralcr, Bto. J. Jebson, presided. Twenty-one delegates representing the tents comprising the* district' were present, as were aIEO the: six district officers.

in welcoming the delegates, the Ckief Ranger expressed the hope that more energy would be displayed in the work of extending the Order in. the, country districts. He referred in strong terms to the mistaken kindness of the public in supplying soldiers with liqnor.

Bro. Stewart moved, "That a Rtrongly-worded protest <bp; ; forwairded to the Hon. J. Allen, Minister' for Defence, in reference to his reported remarks as to protecting the troops against drink by endeavourir.g to induce them to resist and not removing drink altogether." Cooke, LindJ •say, Camplin, and al! superintendents;,! U.T.S. Gomaiittoo, Bros. Foster, R. H.-i Wilson, Northern,, and Jenkins. The officers were iratailod by P.C.R. Bro. : Ewen. ' - -

It was resolved: "Tbat the resolution carried at the District Council meeting held in February, 1915,. providing for -the payment of dues of members at the front, shall in its operation apply without distinction to all members of-the order in the S-lth District, whether mem-j bers at the time or initiated subsequent to the 29th day of February, lfllC: that in its application those members who I are on railitar.7 service outside the Do- i minion of New Zealand shall come under the provisions of that resolution; furtherr, that in the case of a married member, who-may lose- his life whilst" engaged : on military service, the medical and hos-' pital (where ithcre is a hospital fund) payment, shall be continued S or lus wife and fainily,-jmd should the "widow desire, to become a benefit member of the order, she-may do so, provided, the medical certificate be favourable, arid immediately come into such full benefit as provided in rule 39, clause (2), and that there be no charge to her whatever,'such payments to the benefit, medical" a'fid hospital funds shall be .paid for her out of- the District Contingent Fund.;: further, that no charges against-the Tents shall be made from the district for levicß on behalf of any members on active service as above, or their dependents to the District Contingent Fund" (itis: herein understood that should the widow of a deceased member receiving benefit under this resolution rp-marry>'that r all benefits and privileges shall immediately; cease).
