INFANTRY SHORTAGES.
FOR 14TH REINFORCEMENTS. - AUCKLAND'S POSITION. The Prime Minister, as chairman of the National Recruiting. Board, has issued the following statement:—The Recruiting Board is advised by the Defence authorities that the returns up to Saturday last show that the infantry quota for the Fourteenth Reinforcements for Auckland military district is 28 short for No. 1 group, with beadquarters in Auckland city, 38 short for No. 2 group, with headquarters at Paeroa, 33 short for No. 3 group, with headquarters at Whangarei, and 38 short for No. 4 group; with headquarters at Hamilton. '•'* The Board urgently appeals to the committees organised in group areas-to use their utmost endeavours to see that the quota for the Fourteenth Reinforcements goes into camp at full strength. I There is an excess of men for all; other branches of the .service.
