DOCK SITE LEASES. An ordinary meeting of the Auckland

An ordinary meeting eY the Auckland Harbour Board was held yesterday afternoon, Mr H. D. Heather (chairman) presiding. The' Engineer" .Ofr. 'W.I E[: Hamer); .reporting on work done during the fortnight ended February 22, stated that the reclamation In St. George's Bay was making good progress. Two thousand feet of concrete piling for the Central wharf nad been made, and the first pile driven on February 22. All dredging plant bad done excellent work, and a number of smaller jobs of very varied character had been carried, out. ' ARRIVALS AND DEPARTURES. The Harbourmaster reported that during the fortnight ending February 24, vessels arriving at the port of Auckland Included one 'Royal mail steamer, two large caTgo steamers, three intercolonial or Island ■traders,- six coastal steamers from south-, crn ports, and two sailing vessels. The departures included, one Royal mull steamer, 6lx large cargo steamers, one Intercolonial or Isjaricl trader,- seven coastal steamers from southern ports, .and two sailing vessels. ■ Tonnage flcures were-.—Arrivals: 53,430 gross ?nd 33,179 net tons, with 308 local coasters of 44,559 gross and 25,058 net tons; departures: '73,608 gross and 46,632 ,nfet tons, with. 301 Ideal .coasters of 42,230 gross and 49,826 net tons. Arrivals showed a decrease of 17,644 gross and 5,131 net tons, and departures an inerea6e\ of 5,932 gross and a decrease of 2,305 net tons as compared with the same period last jear. The town clerk, Tatapuna, intimated that in accordance -with an agreement made with a sub-committee of the; Board, the Ta-kapuna Borough Co.on.ctiv :wae prepared, to cut down an embankment, fill in the landing, and grade the road leading to the Barry , *! Point rwfcaxf in Shoal Bay, provided that the Counril was. allowed to use the end of the road for landing its own' soodn free of wharfage.

PROTECTION CARGO. : . "The four" principal .-shipping companies - forwarded a joint letter, asking the Board to reconsider its decision to make a charge for the use of tarpaulins to -cover goods. such as motor cars in cases, -left outside the wharf sheds when it was found impossible, from lack of space or other causes, to make use of the latter. The letter pointed out incidentally that the Board was being paid storage in the ordinary course in each instances. THE DOCK SITE. Mr. Neville Newcomh advised that oniy two of the sections Into which the Auckland Dock site bad been subdivided had been disposed of by auction, one at £T0 per annum and the other at £2 12/6 per foot per annum. He hoped, however, to report additional sales at an early date.
