PONSOSTBY'S FIRST DEFEAT. A THREE-POINT WIN TO EDEN. 'VARSITY BEAT GRAFTON. The first draw of the second round in the Auckland Association's district club championship was concluded on •Saturday afternoon in delightfully • fine weather. At Eden Park the home team carried its first innings from the 255 made on,ihe first day to 200. ParneU Started well, but collapsed, and only made 100 for the Innings. Following on, they were disposed of for 126 runs Jus,t on the call of time; Eden thus snatching a three-point win. The event of the day was the PonsonbyNorth Shore match at Victoria Park, in which Shore, on the -first day*s play, gave the home team a score of 306 to beat. Despite good efforts by S. G. Smith (70) 'and IF. A. Taylor (05), Ponsootoy fatted to accomplish the task, finishing up with a score of 243. which gave -North Shore the win and Ponsonby their first defeat of the season. At the Domain, University maintained the lead gained in the first Innings against Grafton, the day's play of second innings giving University 144 runs and Grafton •Km for -five wickets, so that the game was decided on the first innings' scores— 'Varsity 263, Graf-ton 181.
