STANLEY BAY PARK.

The committee appointed by the Stanley Bay Ratepayers' Association to go into the whole question of a retaining wall to enclose the new park area lias held one meeting, and collected a lot of useful information. On Saturday the president of the Association, with Mr Walter Ficldes, surveyor, amd Mr W. K. How.itt, spent the whole afternoon gathering information as to the formation of the ground along the line of the matn wall, which is 765 ft in length. With the exception of about 80ft at the western end of the wall a depth of soil averaging over Bft wa6 found along the remaining 680 ft before the solid rock foundation was tapped. Tests were made every 20ft of the line, and by the time the work was finished at fiye o'clock the three enthusiasts were covered with mud from head to foot. But they weTe very satisfied with the results obtained, for it means that a wall 4ft high, with a base of 12ft and a top of Bft .wide, with the nccessairy drainage, could be put up at a cost of about £150; and from what some of the chief experts of the Dominion say, it appears that such a wall would 'last in such a situation for generations and generations, and w<rald give the same results as is scon at present at the hind adjoining, and comprising the Takapuna racecourse, and which has 'been so successful at the Hauraki Plaint, reclamation, where thousands upon thousands of acres of la.nd have been reclaimed in the same way. The park area is vested in the Devomport Borougn Council, and it is to be hoped that body will help the efforts of the Stanley Bay people to the fullest extent by getting their engineer to report on the scheme, as requested by the Association It is intended to .raise the money by voluntary subscriptions to do the work, and when it is completed the park will be a valuable asset to the borough.
