SWIMMING. . In the recent swimming championship Miss" Fanny" Durack. smashed the world's record for the 220 yds 'by 3b. Miss Durack completed the course at the Domain Baths in 2m 535. Thus a Sydney exchange on the recent ladies' swimmin"* championship: -— The Manly Swimming Baths were chosen this year for the rendezvous of the lady champion swimmers" on the occasion of the , annual carnival The space set apart for the accommodation. of the public wae taxed, and a big gathering assembled to watch .the proceedings. Miss Wylie was' the -first to. gain' an advantage after-the start, and led the competition for. nearly half the distance. FeaTS. were entertained that Miss Durack would not be able to overhaul Iher opponent, but, Betting out With great dash and swimming splendidly, Miss Durack; tackled the task, and gradually bore down on the leader, and. remained in command of the situation till the finish.- It was a wonderful test of strength and endurance on the, part x>t the two principal competitors, and Miss Duraek_- again demonstrated that her powers have in no way deteriorated since her last 'contest: ' Miss Wylie created a surprise 'by her -firie performance against a more experienced and clever'opponent; and the two competitors- received, round after round of of the -tive, Miss E. V*nneZj'secured third place,, and her swimming, performance was of a ; very high, standard. Only three yards separated .the two leaders, and Miss Veimez was a, little in .the rear. Miss J.
