RECRUITING IN THE DOMINION
SHORTAGE IN THE SOUTH. DISTRICT PERCENTAGES. The Thirteenth Reinforcements are expected to commence their training early next week, and though most of the northern quotas have been made up there is still a deficiency in infantry in the South Island. It is anticipated that with some effort the men required can be secured. The list of the district percentages of the total men registered in the Dominion for the week ended Thursday evening last has been issued by Defence Headquarters as follows:— ~ j r,,- Auck * Well - Can t- Otago. FOR AUCKLAND DISTRICT. A progress Teturn of the recruiting in the Auckland military district lor tbe week ended Thursday last was issued yesterday by the Defence Department. The return shows that 93 men were accepted within the district during the period, whereas it is necessary to secure 150 recruits weekly if the district reinforcements are to be provided for. During the previous week 140 recruihs were secured. The number of men and N.CO.'b on the books at present as accepted for service in the Auckland military district are shown as follows:— No. 1. According to the week's return of the state of the recruits' registers in Wellington city 052 men are available as fit, while 603 are ready for the next reinforcement draft. There are 116 noncommissioned officers on tbe waiting list. A report prepared by the Defence authorities in Auckland shows that 185 recruits have signified their willingness to come up at 14 days' notice, "o*2 are available for the Thirteenth Reinforcements, 192 for ,the Fou-tcentha, 24 for -the Fifteenths, 4 for the-'Sixteenths, and 3 for the Eighteenths.
