ISSUE OF BADGES.
FOR NEW RECRUITING SCHEME
' ARMLETS TO BE WORN.: A statement was made by tfce.JJSflis* ter for Defence, the Hon. James' Allen, -. this morning, in connection with tha ■' personal appeal" recruiting-"schelße which is likely to be under way within a fortnight. It is obvious-that unless. sonflP method were devised tb .protect men in mufti who are fulfilling their obligations as well as they are able they would be the subject of. unwelcome attention from the canvassers.-,-'* • Mr. Allen said that after iull .'consideration it had been decided that* the situation would be best met by the is3ua ■of four distinct types of armlet bands. It had been suggested that a badge for the lapel of the coat would.be sufpeient, but so many badges were worn at the present time that the final decision hail been ih favour of the armlet. The armlets, which were *■' quite- easily distinguished — one, for instance, was khaki with a crown had been examined by himself and the ' Prime Minister, and -.vere to be'finally approved and adopted by the Recruitin? Board. Tlie armlets would be issued as follows:— . . , *( 1) Enlisted, and waitm? to be called up. a (8) Unable to comply with requirements. (3) Retained in New Zealand for serTiee. ' • - - -,-.' "V (4) Soldiers "returned from the feS-V The armlets are to be issued simultaneously with the commencement of the -new recruiting scheme."'
