His Excellency the Governor and the Countese of Liverpool arrived by the express this morning, and attended the parade of troops this afternoon. The Tutanekai has arrived at Onehunga to take their Excellencies a trip north ol Auckland. The vessel will leave this evening if the weather is suitable.

Mr B. R. GardneT has resigned his seat on Foxton Harbour Board.

Mr. Tiedall, of Singapore, has arrived in Auckland, and is staying at Cargen.

Dr. F. Fitchett, Public Trustee, returned to Wellington from Sydney by the Manuka.

Mr W. T. Jennings, M.P. for TaumaniDui, was a passenger by the express last night.

Mr Justice Cooper returned from Wellington by the express yesterday afternoon, and sat at the Supreme Court today.

Captain H. A. Cooper, of the sth Lancors, arrived by the Rotorua yeeterday, and is staying at Cargen. He is accompanied by Mrs. Cooper.

Sir James Mills, K.C.M.G., chairman of the Union Steamship Company, has been elected a member of the committee of management of Lloyd's Register.

Mr J. G. Anderson, B.Sc, an ex-pupJ of Inveircargill Boys' High School, ami the nominee of Otago University for the Rhodes Scholarship this year, has been appointed science master at Wanganui Collegiate School.

Private W. Ernest GUmoiir, formerly on the staff of Messrs. Brookfield and Schnauer, solicitors, Auckland, now of the legal firm of Messrs. Gilmour and Gilmour, Waipawa, US., has cabled that he lias arrived at Egypt.

The Rigfet Hon. W. F. Maesey (Primo Minister), the Hon. James Allen (Minister for Defence), the Hon. A. M. Myers (Minister for Munitions), and the Hon. Dr. Pomare arrived in Auckland to •witnese the military parade this afternoon. The Hon. W. Fraser was also due to arrive from the North by the express from Kaipara this afternoon.

Mre Eleanor Cooper, who died at her residence, >Shakespeare Road, on Monday was Napier's oldest resident, having been witiu'n a month and one day of 91 years of age. Deceased was born at Henley-on-Thames, and has lived in the reigns of George IV., William IV., Victoria, Edward VII., and George V. During her lifetime steamers, gas as an iiluminant, telegTaph, telephones, and electric lighting and power have all been introduced. Mrs Cooper arrived in Auckland with her husband in 1860 in fche old Blue Jacket. The family went to Mangonui, and in 1574 removed to Napier.
