THE PARCEL POST.

PACKAGES UNDELIVERED AND UNCLAIMED. New regulations have been gazetted defining the action to be taken by the Post OlSec in respect to undelivered and unclaimed parcels. Following is the text of the regulations: — Posted in the Dominion for Delivery Therein.—When a parcel is refused by the addressee, or known to be undelivcrablc. the sender will be immediately communicated with -, or, ii a parcel is not claimed in fourteen days the sender will be advised, and he may elect to have it re-directed to another address or returned, but lie shall pay a fresh rate of postage for stich re-direction or return, except where the original and corrected addresses are both within a delivery from the same post office. Unclaimed parcels will be retained at 'he office from which they should be delivered for one clear month exclusive of the one in which they arc received. The senders will then be again advised, and the parcels, if not claimed within three months irom day; of posting, shall thereupon be forwarded to the Dead Letter Oflice. and disposed of as the Postmaster-General may directAny charges for re-direction at the addressee's request which may have accrued on an undehvorcd inland parcel are waived on the return of the parcel to the sender.

Received from Places Beyond the Dominion. — Parcels originating in the United States of America or any of its dependencies and unclaimed at the expiration of thirty days from their receipt at the office of origin without charge. Parcels originating in any other countries, and which cannot ho delicvercd. will be kept at the oflico to which they arc addressed for one clear month, irrespective of the one in which they were received, and, if not claimed, forwarded to the chief post office. The senders will be advised through the Post Office of the country of origin, and in the absence of instructions the pnrcels originating in Australia wiTl be retained for four months, and those from other countries six months, from the date of posting of the advke of non-delivery, and then returned through the Dead Letter Office to the countries whence they were received.

Parcels with perishable contents maT be destroyed immediately they become offensive.
