THE SINKING OF THE YASAKA MARU.
GRAVELY COMPROMISES ANCONA CASE. (Received 10.30 a.m.) WASHINGTON, December 27. The American Consul at Port Said has telegraphed to the State Department that the Japanese liner Yasaka. Maru was torpet' >ed and sunk in the Mediterranean by an unknown submarine. The liner did not attempt to escape. The State Department regards the incident as gravely compromising the Ancona case. A message last Friday stated that the Japanese liner Yasaka Maru. of 12,500 tons, was torpedoed without warning on Tuesday aftprnoon and sank in 50 minutes. The passengers numbered 120. of whom Rl were British, 0 Japanese, and one American.
