A committee will therefore be t formed at the next meeting of house- - holders, which takes place next April. 1 An alarm of fire was given in a very 2 peculiar manner in Christchureh. A " carter for a timber merchant was driv- " ing a dray across the intersection of two 7 streets, when he missed his footing and 3 fell off the dray. In his fall he collided with a fire alarm box, and fractured the glass, an alarm being given, to which the brigade promptly responded. The injured man was taken to 1 the hospital, where it was found that he had sustained severe bruises and internal injuries. During the whole of Friday morning thick shoals of small fish were seen close " in the beach at .Napier, aud later a large shark was seen swimming leisurely along | tho Bca front, about 100 yards out from tho shore. On the same evening it ' caused numerous surf-bathers to make , a hurried exit from the water. A shoal of sharks, some of which appeared to be ; mbout 12ft to 15ft in length, was noticed . by some spectators, and the alarm was \ given to the bathers.
