ANOTHJER ATTEMPT FAILS. (Bj Telegraph.—Own CorreeponfleoL) DUNEDIX, this day. The latest attempt to rescue the gold lost in the General Grant at the Auckland Islch in IS (Hi has, like thote that preceded it, been doomed to failure. Mr. Catling, the prime mover in the matter, together with the party which left Dunedin in May laet, have just returned from their unprofitable mission, and it is understood (although no details are yet available) that the work they did and the bearings they took clearly established that recovery » not possible direct from the seaward eide. The party left their gear and apparatus on the spot for another attempt, working from a platform on the cliffs, so that the venture is apparently not yet given over. It will be remembered that {he ship drifted into a eort of cave, and lies in 100 ft of water.
