NEW LYNN TOWN DISTRICT.
(A PROGRESSIVE Sfßl'Ra Dcipite the effects of the war the above district has made considerableprogress during the past year. Aparf? from private enterprise, the public facilities have been increased to a wry large extant. The railway service has been improved, and many improvements have been made to the New Lynn station, including an "island" platform. The only thing now lacking U an overhead bridge or subway, as it is now only possible to approach the station hy cro.-»*ing the lino at certain points. The Ilailivnr Department, however, liat ininrtiatcd to the New Lynn Town Board that it is prepared to put in a subway providing the Hoard make* a direct approach to the railway boundary opposite the station. Mcteni Card Her Bro3. and l'arker have offered a free site for tiiis purpose, but this does not find favour with a majority on the Board, and at its last meeting it wae decided to approach iMeaars Gardner Bros, anil Parker to see if they would be prepared to sell what wan considered by the Board to be a more favourable lite. Tlie new wing that is being added to the main school is Hearing completion, end will pravide accommodation for a further sixty scholars, and the Anglican Church, which has been rented ne a eide-itchool, will not be further required. A new infant- , playing area ha* been Oom,p)cte<L and the school committee hope to put in a sand tray in the near future. The school and its garden* are a decided acquisition to the district. In the centre of the township there is a triangular piece of ground vested ill the Waitcnrata County Council, and at present used as a dumping ground for metal, much to tile dwgust of a large number of the inhabitants. It is Ijoped that tke Council will see its way clear to transfer this little reserve to the New Lyuii Board, in order that it may be graeeed and planted with shrubs and become a beauty spot in the district. The new polf linkj hnvr been fenced, and the re-cent warm rains have brought the young grass along at a good rate, and the presence of three linke h.is entirely altered the a'-pe.-t of this particular part of the district, ami i< n striking example of what can W done with gum land.
