MAORI LOSSES IN BIG ATTACK.
OFFICER STATES THAT THEY WERE BADLY CUT UP. REPORTED INCORPORATION DC OTHER UNITS DENIED. FREMANTLE, September 20. Amongst the passengers on the steamer Khyber, which has arrived from London, are three Maori officers. One, Captain Pansey, stated tlut the Maori Contingent had been cut up in attacks on August 6 and 8, and tlie Burvivors are now incorporated in oth«r units. {By Telegraph.—Frees -lesoceinom.) WELLINGTON, this day. With reference to this cable the Hon. .>ae. Allen last night stated that the message is misleading. X would be wrong to let the impression get abroad that the Maori* had boen badly cut up. They HulTercd loss, but no more than anybody else, and the casualty U»U have all been published. As to the point that they have been incorporate with other unit*, the fact was that they had been attached to an infantry brigade, but would still be kept together aa a Maori force. Mr. Allen received a cable from (loneral (lodloy, which haa already been publiitlied, in which he said be had attarhed the Maoris to an infajitry brigaded Rrinforceracntii for the Maoris had boi>n ankcil for, and were being- ecnt. The Maoris would be kept a» two companies in the infantry brigade.
