THE NEW PORTFOLIO.
I HON. AKTHXm MYERS STARTS WORK. AID FROM BUSINESS MEN. (By Tolesrrsph. Special to "Star.") WF.LUXUTOX, this day. The Hon. Mr. Myers, by taking up the new portfolio of Munitions and Supplies, has pnu'ticaJly to create a l>eI partment which for some weeks will nvan a very busy tim»* for him indeed, as it is a Department which is likely to develop into a mor-t important branch of activity in the asei'tanee ol defence organisation during the war. A conference was held Yesterday between the Minister of Defence nnd Mr. Myers respecting munitions and supplies, and the new Department will have the assistance of three leading Wellington merchants. Messrs. A. H. Milf3 (of Murray. Roberts and Co.'. A. Mrlntnsn (of Dalgety and Co.). and G. Wilson (of Aitken and Wileont. These gentlemen, upon being approached by tho Government, consented to act as a Board ot Advice regarding the purchase of munitions, supplies, and general equipment for the troops. At the conference today plans were discussed regarding the future working of the Department. The energies of tlip Board will be devoted in the first instance to tho acquisition of the necessary knowledge to onadlc them to give advice respecting the tenders now being reveived tor tde equipment of the forces, and for future requirement 5.
