BISHOP CLEARY.
Latest information from Sydney, where Bishop Cleary is under treatment in a private hospital, shows that his Lordship is in a very serious condition. His Lordship underwent an operation, on June 28, with apparently successful results. However, on July 26 a serious set--back was experienced m a most severe nerve shock, which completely prostrated the patient. For a time he was unconscious, and although consciousness has returned his Lordship is quite exhausted. A cable was received last night by _fc. Rev. Mgr. Brodie, V.G., stating that there was a continuance of these nerve shocks, and that no improvement could be recorded. The most eminent specialists in Sydney have his Lordship under their care, and are untiring in their efforts for their' patient. "Very Bey. Dr. Ormond, formerly of Auckland, and secretary to the Papal Delegation in Sydney, is constantly in attendance, sending regular reports of his Lordship's condition; also Father Kehoe, of Auckland, a lifelong friend of the Bishop, has proceeded to Sydney by the Riverina to act m cbn> junction - with .Dr. Ormond, and tins presence of these two" devoted priests will be; a comfort to the Bishop in his sufferinj. ' The news of Bishop deary's illness __ . caused a great shock to) the Cathobbody. It was known that his Lordship had* seriously impaired his health ij overwork, but it was hoped that a thorough, rest would restore his strength, so that this serious development was not unexpected. Prayere are being offered for his Lordship in all t_e churches of the diocese.
