NORTHERN UNION.

NEW ZEALAND COUNCIL. A meeting of the council of the New Zealand Rugby Football League was held in .Auckland last evening, under the chairman- , ship of Air. James Carlaw. Oakley (secretary), i A letter was received from the secretary of the Northern Union of England acknow- t ledfiing the receipt of a le;ter from the Sew , I Zealand Council in which exception was taken to the playing of G. B. Houghton, a. New Zealand player, for the British team. The Northern Union pointed out that when they were apprised of the fact by report of the game they at once cabled disapproval to Mr. Houghton, sen., one of the managers of the team. The letter was received and approval expressed of its contents. The question of raising the suspension on es-ofitcials was discussed on letters front the Auckland Engby iLeague,. enclosing applications for the removal of the penalty on Meesi-s. C. Child, W. A. Knox and Uarker. Mr. Lereln moved that the conncil approve the principle of uplifting the suspension, subject to the ex-officials undertaKlng not to Accept official poeitlons. There wa* no secondet to this motion, and the council decided to refer the matter beck to the Auckland League for un expression of opinion. The Xew Zealand League Referees , dation wrote eusgestins that the council should supply tile association with fifty monogram badges to be distributed to referees who qualified by controlling interprovincial, Intercolonial or international matches iv the Dominion. The council approved the suggestion, but decided to retain utae responsibility for distribution of the badges until each time as the Referees" Association was a more representative body.

AUCKLAND RUGBY LEAGUE.

SENIOR GRADE DRAW. A meeting of tbe Management Committee of tbe Auckland Rugby League was held . last evening under the chairmanship of Mr. B. Benson. Other members present were: Mecers N. Cnlpan, R. McDonald, J. Endean. H. Strong, C. Baker, K. Pollock, A- B. Cumi mine, A. Tatton and B. Spinley {sec.). Application for registration and affiliation was received from the Thames Old Boys Club, who intimated that the? would be prepared to enter two teams. Applications for transfers in respect of three Newton senior players were deferred for a week pending the formation of the Newton senior team. The Newton Club wrote intimating that it was prepared to enter a senior team and three junior teams in the competition. The following transfers were approved Iby the meeting:—U. Peat and W. Sornmer--1 ville from Newtou to Thames Old Boy.s; G. Warner, from Citj to Grafton; P. Brown and K. Miller, from Poneonby respectively to Grafton and Newton; W. Mincham, from I'onsouby to City Borers. The Canterbury Bugby League wrote congratulating the Auckland League on the successful working of tbe past season. A suggestion from the Auckland Beferees , ' Association that tbe League should provide distinguishing badges for referees was declined , Otabuhu Club wrote intimating that it was entering tour teams (Ist, 2nd, 3rd, and sth. grades). At tbe request of the Otahubn Club , " the secretary was instructed' to endeavour to make arrangements for train facilities from Auckland to Otubuhu on Saturday afternoons* The meeting unanimously decided, with a view to enabling the quicker identification of players, to provide the'whole of the: clubs with moleskin numbers to be attached to the jerseys of the players. The deferred resolution from the City Club amending Rule 7 to preclude the voting of ex-oftlcio members on purely club" matters, was again brought forward by Mr. Pollock, who moved its adoption. Mr. Tatton seconded, but the resolution was rejected by live votes to three. In view of the granting of an extra Cround on Victoria Park, the League decided to secure two extra dressing-rooms. .
