Mr. C R. C. Robicson, general manager of th c State Fire Insurance Office, is at present on a visit to Auckland. 'Major C. R. Macdonald, general staff officer at Auckland, returned yesterday from a visit of inspection to the training camp at Tauranga of the D and E squadrons of the 4th (Waikato) Mounted Rifles. Mr. C. H. A. Senior and Mr. F. A. Taylor, of the teaching staff at the Auck- , land Grammar School, have resigned their positons in order to join the Expeditionary Force. The Prime Minister, the Rt. Hon. W. F Massey. arrived by the Welb'ngton express this afternoon, and alighted at Newmarket in order to attend the funeral of th c late Mr. John Bollard, exM.P. for Eden, at the Avondalc Anglican Cemetery. Dr. Pearce Baldwin, Government Medi. cal Officer at Rarotonga, arrived in Wellington from Sydney by the Manuka, on her last trip, and is on his way back to the Cook Islands, after his furlough. Mr. M. Myers, of Wellington (of the legal firm of Bell, Gully, Bell and Myers) will leave by the 'Niagara with Mrs. Myers to mak e a tour of Canada and the United States. Mr. John Burton, who is chairman of the Grafton School Committee, has acceded to the request of a deputation of supporters that be should accept nomination as a candidate for a seat on the City Council at the next election. Mr. Allan Maguire, a well-known Wellington contractor, died yesterday monining. He carried out many important works in Wellington, including harbour reclamation, the Government Buildings, and the Hataitai tramway tunnel, as well as works on the Midland Railway and in the Auckland district.
