AUSTRIANS' MAD CHARGE AT PRZEMYSL.

IMMENSE LOSSES IN FURIOUS ATTACK ON HEIGHTS.

RUSSIANS GIVE WO QUARTER IN FINAL REPULSE.

I [(Received 10.25 a.m.) "^Tfv PETROGRAD, March 24. The ofiacial account of the surrender of Przemysf*-tates that the 39th Honved division, after being repulsed from the first line of the Russian trenches in the garrison's final sortie, renewed the attack with an absolute disregard to the destruction wrought in their ranks. They crossed wire entanglements despite immense losses, and stormed the Stashkowka height with mad fury. Thrice the height changed hands, and eventually the Austrians were driven off. The Russians were furious when they first lost the trenches, and gave no quarter in the hand-to-hand fighting. They pursued the enemy a great distance, using their bayonets and butt ends of their rifles.

It is understood that 700 big guns and many field pieces and machine-guns were captured at Przemysl. Three Austrian regiments made a desperate night attack on March 13 along the Senkowka-Massina-Male sector in order to distract attention from Przemysl, to enable a decisive sortie to be made.

The Bussians drove them back across the Sankowka River with immense losses, taking 500 prisoners.
