The annual report presented by the. directors stated-.that .the quantity of' sand treated for the year amounted to 144,300 tons, yielding bullion, to the value of £-42,950— or 4200 tons of a value of £650 more than the".previous--ot first full year's work. - Of > this amount, 7-yOO tons, o£ a. value of 1 £24,"450, "was- treated ouring the. last halfyear, from June "JO to -December 19, showing v considerable improvement on any iprevlous sis months since the company commenced operations. - Of the. total profit of £4068 14/7 made for the year, no l%ss than £4054 6/4 was made during the last half-year. The .'bullion averages about 12o« of silver to loz of gold, and the exceijtlonally low price of silver since' .the war'(the lowest -jrke for 40 years being reached) largely accounts, "for the reduced profit. The amount standing to credit of profit and loss is £6033 IS/7,.'Snd' ot.thls aum the recommended- that *he following amounts be •written" off:—Buildings (machinery and -plant account), £1500; river plant (machinery, and plant-account),-£500; vacuum filter rfetots. £305 4/10: Union Colliery invest-ment,-£4OO-; office furniture, 7 £13 0/6; "Jte; limmary expenses.. £231 11/3; total, £2940 16/7; leaving to oe carried "forward a balance of £SSJT4 *!/: The retiring- directors, Messrs. The manager in his report stated: — "Prom an analysis of these figures, and a comparison wW.ii those of the previous year, it is evident that-the river work has proved a more difficult problem tluui anticipated, ■while the increased oosss have nearly neutralised tne savings effected in Kie other departments: Owing-to the dry season ami tow state "Of Xbe river.,the.sniaJVPrtestman dredge was hardly able to deal with the timber and river sand*~and maintain a gffoH channel; consequently there were times ■when the milk; had to be reduced owing to shortage; ef sand, otherwise v larger tonnage could have been, treated. Now that ; the larger rriestman dfeflge is completed ' we'-wifi be able to maintain a constant'ami sufficient supply of sand,-, to-.the works, besides cleaning up the bed of the river, and dredging "the 'banks ac originally intended with this clase of machine. Once the timber obstructions are removed there will be no difficult}' in redredging these bad sections when necessary, after large floods. With the persistent dry weather the better class of sands left, behind by.the Ko. 1 dredger mas been covered with deposits of fine slime and eands. which will considerably ■ rrednce the average value of the material dredged i>y the Priestmane. t think that a good flood with a rapid stream would concentrate and Improve Ujese values; but small freshes only tend to increase the depth of the deposits, in which case it will be necessary to dredge a larger tone&ge en* eliminate a larger percentage of the_elime>ott the Yammers. The treatment section of the plant ias siveii satisfaction, and. egsts_.show a. substantial seduction, although a delay wkh our ordinary shipment of cyanide compelled ns to buy very Inferior cyaßJde -at-eoesidera-Ny increased cost. -The trouble with our direct-driven tube-mills Iras ttecn reducpd to a minimum by constant and careful, Attention."
