GREATER AUCKLAND PROPOSALS. INQUIRING SUBURBS. TO BE ANSWERED TO-NIGHT. At to-night's meeting of the Finance Committee of the Auckland City Council no ' fewer than three inquiries by suburban . local bodies as to the terms upon which the city will be prepared to take their districts within, the boundary will come up for consideration. The applicant bodies are:— The Newmarket Borough Council. The Epsom Road Board. The Eden Terrace Road Board.
Various causes are just now contributing to the rush of local bodies to eupport the Greater Auckland theory. Problems of roadmaking and water supply are bringing home the difficulty of bodies representative of small populations dealing with large areas, while the example made by other boroughs which have already decided upon amalgamation has given encouragement to local bodies to seek the wishes of the people upon the wisdom or otherwise of casting in their lot with the city.
