SILVER-PLATED MUSIC

FOB THE TRADES tmiOM BAND. INSTRUMENTS COST £725. A very great deal of interest is being taken by bandsmen and musicians generally in the exceptionally handsome eet of instruments -which have been imported through Eady and Co. for the recently-formed ■ Trades Union Band. Right from the beginning the promotere of the band aimed high, and resolved that nothing would be satisfactory short of equality with the beet that ■wae possible in New Zealand. Animated by that spirit they undertook obligations for between £700 and £800 for a eet of Boo9ey instruments. These, 27 in number, came to hand this week, and it appears to be a mere statement •of fact to say that a better set of instruments could not be obtained. They represent the highest grade of work turned out by the famous British firm, with the latest "eolbron" valve, compensating, silver-plated, and engraved. The silver-plating is much desired because of the handsome appearance, but the practical bandsman favours it because of cleanliness. Those interested in band music will be interested to note that the set has no B flat bass, but instead 'has two of E flat bass, and two monster baeees. This composition is, it is eaid, now followed by all the best bands. It is worthy of remark that this valuable set for the , Auckland Trades Union Band has been made since the war broke out, and that Eady and Co. have quite recently imported also two other valuable sets of instruments for .bands .in the country.
