After about six years of sculling Alf Felton has made up his mind to retire from the sport. He, however, would like a race with Charlie Towns before definitely closing down, although he wishes it to be clearly that he is not issuing a direct challenge to tbe exohampion. Towns favours tlie idea, and after a canvass of bis backer* will give a reply. Felton has asked for a Wake of £200 or £250, but Towns is a little doubtful as to whether he can collect that amount just at present. Whatever sum can be found he is prepared to rwk so that he might get a chance to again meet the Chatawood sculler. In the event of Towns not being able to obtain backing for more than £100, Felton should accommodate him. He bas a win over the Pajramatta. River man, and as both have done well since that race a meeting between them in their present form would provide an interesting match. A sculler who can find backing in one quarter far £200 is, indeed, fortunate, for most ectrltars now find difuaißy in raising half that amount, even though tbey are prepared to accept it in small sums. Felton, it is known, has a backer wlio will find the whole of his stake, and so must be looked upon as one of tbe most lucky scullers oi to-day. Towns has a brilliant record for the past year, but still he cannot guarantee to find £200. Yet, ho says, it is possible that money may conte from some unexpected quarter and enable him to fix up for tbe full amount asked by Felton. Whatever money Towaie raises, providing H is net less than £100, (should be sufficient to bring the pair together. Both are in fair condition, and could sign up to row in six or seven weeks from now.
