KISSES FOR "THE CAUSE."
A bridge afternoon and cafe chantant at the Theatre Royal, Melbourne, on Thursday last, realised £760 for the Belgian Relief Fund. All sorts of articles were put up for auction, and they were bought and paid for many times over. Rut the "house got a shock when Mr. Plainer gravely announced that Mr. Hugh .Mcintosh would pay £5 .1/ for the privilege of being allowed to kiss iMiss Muriel .Starr, in view of the audience. Mr. Mcintosh was apparently more surprised than anyone else, but before he could protest. Air. Sam Allen said he would pay £o 5/ to see it done. After the motion was put to the house it was carried on the voices, and two very uncomfortable people consented and kissed for the sake of the cause.
