THEFT BY COUXCIL CASHIER. CHEISTCHURCH, thL* day. In the Lyttelton Court, Cecil George Farrow appeared in answer to eight charges of theft of moneys from tha Lyttelton Borough Council. Evidence was given that accused had been employed by the Council as cashier. Probably between £ 15.000 and £17,000 passed through his hands in a year. He left the Council's employ on February 6th. to join the Expeditionary Forces. Detective Carney said accused had admitted converting the Council's money to hi 3 own uses owing to financial difficulties. Farrow, who pleaded guilty to all the charges, was committed to the Supreme Court for sentence. The total sum Involved is about £700 sterling. _______ W.C.T. UNION. CHRISTCHUROHj thi* day. Tne "W.C.T.U. extended a welcome to Miss Brisson, of the British organisation. Mrs. Hislop was appointed to represent the Dominion at the Adelaide I Convention at Easter. It was resolved Ito congratulate the United- Sta-tes Union on the large increase in the prohibition vote during the year.
