(Before Mr. E. C. Outten S.M.) I DRUNKENNESS. Two first offenders forfeited bail, while one was fined 5/. William B. Grifliths (45) was fined 10/ for a second offence (within six months), and for a third offence and breach of order, John Anderson [o~>) was fined 20/ or three day*. LIGHTS OUT. Wm. B. Snook, a taxi driver, charged that on the night of February 25 he drove his car at night An Ponsonby Road without having the headlights lit, stated that he had just noticed that the lights had gene down and had just got out to re-charge the lamps with carbon when the constable came up and spoke to him. He had not noticed the constable before that, lie said, or health him call out. His Worship considered that acetylene lights always gave sufficient notice before going out, to prevent drivers from waiting until the lights went right out before attending to them. Defendant would be fined 10/ and 7/ costs. For driving a motor-ear in Ponsonby after dark without having the tail light burning, Allan Glase wes fined 10/ and 7/ costs. A GOOD FRIEND. "He said he had only done fonr days' work during the laat nine months," stated Constable Young respecting William Sexton (39), who was charged that he was an idle and disorderly person without visible means of eupport. The constable said that Sexton had elevenpence on him when he was arrested, and said he had a friend who allowed him so much a week until he got a billet. Constable Gourley stated that it wae a mystery to him how the man lived, aB he never worked, though he was an educated man who -was a clerk. Sexton told him that he could not get a job because he was single. Detective Quartermain stated that the man had been gradually going down, though there was no suspicion that he was « thief, or dishonest, but "he had fallen into idle habits. Sexton himself stated that the last money he had saved wae finished four or five months ago, and since then a friend had been standing by him *o the extent of about 17/ a week. On being asked by his Worship, he named the friend who had stood by him, and was remanded till to-morrow to enable inquiries to be made from the friend. THE DOG ABOUT THE HOUSE. For failing to register their doge at the proper time, Charles Addkon was fined 10/ and 7/ costs; James Carmichal and William White, 5/ and 7/ costs each; while Archie Cleaver, Rose Geerts, Mary Gurnick. John Kennedy, Rose Xeilson, Edward O'Hare. Alexander IMcßae, Mary Thompson and Marry Wilson had each to pay 7/ ' Ajrnes Mochen and Edward Plowman c convicted and discharged.
