STANLEY BAY.
RATEPAYERS' ASSOCIATION FORMED, A meeting was held in the Stanley Bay Methodist Hall last evening .for the purpose of forming a local ratepayers' association. Mr. E. C. Shepherd, who. was voted to the chair, explained that the gathering was the outcomeof several previous meetings to discuss the proposal, and spoke at some length of the useful field for a ratepayers' association that existed in the district. Particularly desirable was the supervision' of the ratepayers over the electoral roll—for a large proportion of the residents were not enfranchised—and over the valuation'rolls.
In the course of the discussion it was urged that the ratepayers' association could do useful' work in stimulating interest in local elections, and it was contended that the Stanley Bay district was entitled to at least three representatives on the Devonport Council.
It was further urged that the questions of road maintenance, water supply and the provision of recreation grounds bad now reached a point when it was necessary to form some organisation of the ratepayers to voice the views of the residents.
The resolution forming the association was unanimously carried, and it was agreed that in order to maintain interest in the movement no committee should be formed for the present, so that all matters should be- discussed by all the members. Necessary executive powers were vested -n the chairman and secretary, who were empowered to take steps to form a committee should they deem it to be desirable. Mr. E. C. Shepherd' was elected president and Mr. E. Jones secretary.
