PATRIOTIC TEMPERANCE CRUSADE.

A largely-attended meeting was held in the V.M.C.A. Hall last evening, to consider the inauguration of a Patriotic Temperance Crusade. Tbe following resolution was carried unanimously:— "That, in view of the menace of alcoholism, a s described by the Chancellor of the Exchequer (Lloyd George), the Czar, the President of France, and leading generals and admirals, and In conformity with the action of our Allies in banishing vodka and absinthe with such great success, this meeting considers it desirable to inaugurate a pledge-signing campaign in response to the appeal of Mrs. Parker (sister of Lord Kitchener), who is asking the people to help her brother by abstaining from intoxicants during the war. . The remarkable success of Russia's experiment fully justifies all claims for non-use of poisonous beverages."

A large committee of ladies and gentlemen was elected to give effect -to the above resolution. Mr. W. R. Tuck ■was elected president, Mr. A. M. Skeates treasurer, and Mr. H. Dickin, secretary. Arrangements were made for a meeting of citizens in the Town Hall concert chamber next Monday.
