BABY FARMING CASE.
WUT AND WIFE CHARGED. (By Telegraph.—rress Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, this day. In the Court to-day Walter Charles Hooper was charged that on January 3 he made a false statement concerning the death of an illegitimate child. The police said the accused and his wife took the child, and received £30. It was alleged that accused wilfully evaded the law. The child had eince died.
The Registrar said there was a discrepancy between the entry regarding the child's birth and its death.
Akjeused, who reserved his defence, was committed for trial.
On a further charge of having, in consideration of a payment of £30, he retained the infant without being licensed, Hooper and bis wife were convicted and ordered to come up for sentence after the Supreme Court case had been disposed of.
