ONEHUNGA BOROUGH COUNCIL.

Mr J. Rowe (Mayor) presided at the meeting of the Onehunga borough Council lust nlslit.

Finance.—The treasurer reported a credit balance ln the general account of £1137, and twice that amount in the cemetery fund.

Tenders.— The following tenders were received for supplying screens aud gear for the drainage tank:—-Messrs Seager Bros., £49: Messrs Wilson aud Kelly. £4G IS/<J. The tenders were left In the hands of tbe Mayor and Borough Engineer, with power to act. For buchans: Symonds Street— A. Magor. £3 12/6; T. E. -Smith. t3 6/; T. Hannlgan -(accepted). £3 2/. Arthur Street—T. E. Smith. £2: A. Magor, £1 17/6; T. Hannlgan (accepted). £1 12/.

Where Six Roads Meet.—The Council received a request from the One Tree Hill Road Board to unite with the other local bodies and the Hospital and Charitable Aid Board la getting the angles caused by tbe convergence of six roads on the Manukau Road near the Royal. Oak cut off. The letter suggested that the parties Interested might unite in securing or granting the corners of each property, ln order to render safe and attractive a centre of traffic. A large open space or circus could then he formed, with the Seddon Memorial ln the! centre. The Mayor explained that the Auckland Automobile Association had 're-. ouested the local authorities to do some-j thing on the llnr« suggested by the One Tree Hill Rond Ponrd. to give drivers of motor cars a better chance of avoiding collisions when rounding the corners. Cost of Living.—A circular was received from the Runanga Borough Council seeking the co-operation of the Council ln urging upon tbe Government to regulate the prices of common necessities, and thus save the people of New Zealand from being exploited by Interested parties. The Mayor said he had received a letter this week from a former resident at Mt. Rosfclll, now In London, stating that New Zealand bntter Is sold In London ns best English, and that Xew Zealand meat Is sold for less than In New Zealand, after paying the costs of export. On the motion of Mr J. B. Morton and seconded hy Mr E. Biggins, it was agreed to support the action of the Rnnnnen Borough Council. Rnrgess - Roll.—The tnrrn clerk reported that 184 changes had taken place in the ownership of property tn the borough last year—l4B hy sale or transfer and .16 hy death. The burgess' roll had heen revised accordingly, and it was signed by the Mayor and Messrs Davis and Lomas.

Petition.—A petition wn« received from property owners asking for the extension of the water nron on the eastern boundary of Rockfleld Road to the bonndarv of Mr Thorpe's property. On the motion of the Mayor, it was decided to eomplv with the rennest on receipt of n letter* from the petitioner* gunrnntePlne the costs.

Sneed of Motor Cars.—As the resnlt of representations mnde by the Auckland Automobile Association to the Ancklnnd Suburban and Local Rcdles' Association, the Council was asked to consider the advisability of uniform regulations regarding motor traffic between the local authorities. —Referred to committee.

Onehunga Soldiers.—The Council agreed to allow the Onehnngß branch of the N.Z. Mllltnry Force to erect a Morris tube rnnce for shooting practice In the Drill Hall. .

Marin Street.—The Council acceded to tbe request of Mr W. H. Nelson to extend -Marin 'Street across his land, which he proposes to cut up for building purposes. The town clerk explained that this could he done only with the sanction of the Government and hy excluding .Mnrla Street f-r>~ th" """rntlons of section 117 of the Pnbllc Works Act.
