» ■ At the Police Court this afternoon John Whittaker, an undischarged 'bankrupt, elected to be dealt witii summarily on a.jseries of admitted offences, which consisted of obtaining substantial various people, without -isclbsmgifis circumstances to them. He ihad- ieettSji-cla.ed a, bankrupt in 1912, and since' then; it was shown, -he had. lived-by systematically i incurring debts! which he could -not hope to meet. The magistrate, while appreciating the. misfortune that„had .oerfcaken the defendant, stated that he offence must be met by exemplary punishment, and sentenced ..Whittaker- to- -three- months'! imprisonment with hard labour. i
