I Mr. John Swift, of the defence headquarters staff, died suddenly in a private I hospital in Wellington on Friday, at the age of fifty-seven. He was well known in the city, and was one of the oldest members of the Star Boating Club and a foundation member of tlie Wellesley Club. He .was one of the original residents at |2Karaka Bay, and had been in the Civil Service for over 30 years, having been engaged in several departments. He was at his post almost till the end, passing away after a very short illness. The deceased had no relatives in Wellington, but wae esteemed by a. large number ot friend*.
