WET CANTEENS.
The usual fortnightly meeting of the Auckland VV.C.T.U. was held on Thnreday afternoon in the Central Hall. Mr. J. Cook presided. The following- resolution was carried unanimously: "That ' this meeting of Auckland " District Women's Christian Temperance Union, many of wham have sons in the New Zealand expeditionary fnrcce, earnestly protests against the establishment of "a wet oantepn" in the Trentham camp. We believe that auch a step would he productive of serious danger to the young men in traiiiing in Ihie Dominion. It ■would be contrary to the epjrit of Lord Kitchener's warning- to the troops on •leaving England, and also to the direct intention of the New Zealand Defence Act, 1909, of which clsinee 03, section x. raade as follows: The canteen at any encampment thall be under tlio control srad-eole direction of the officer in command of the encampment, and no intoxiemtingvliqnor shall be sold or supplied at »uy (β-nch canteen to any aenon.' "
