FOOTBALL.
The annual report of the Otaeo Rugby Union, which has just been drawn up for presentation to the annual meeting of delegates, does not make attractive reading. It eete out to cay that the standard of play did not chow any marked improvement on the previous season, and that the back play was a long way below th© standard tliat charactertaed Otago football some yea*e ago. The disastrous tour of the repreeentatire team is briefly referred to the failure being attributed to the leading I players being unable to make the trip •owing to the war.
