TRADE UNIONS' BAND.
FIRST TEAK OF GOOD WORK. NEW INSTRUMENTS NOW DUE. The first annual meeting of the Trade Unions' Silver Band was held at tho Auckland Trades Hall last evening, when, in epite of counter-mcctinge, the room was packed. Great interest was taken in the secretary's report, two questions of especial moment being tho National Reserve, and the arrival of new instruments from London, which are due here on the 15th inst.
The election of officers resulted as follows:—President, Mr. H. L. Buckler (Painters' Union): vice-president, Mr. G. Pardington (Plasterei-3 , Union); treasurer (unopposed), Mr. O. Davis (Drivers' Union); sergeant, Mr. \V. Bright (Railway Servants); lance-cor-poral, Mr. A. Black (Hairdressers' Union); corporal (unopposed), Mr. L. Lee (Saddlers' Union); secretary (unopposed), Mr. P. C. Ansell (Typographical Union); committee for band, Messrs. Parkinson, Clarkson, Harkins, and Lithcrland; committee for Unions, Messrs. Austin, Wilson, and Sharrock.
Owing to the large amount of business to be transacted the meeting was adjourned until Inter in the month, when the new instruments will be distributed to members.
Great credit is given to Mr. P. C. Calkin, the bandmaster, for the able manner in which he has conducted the band during the last six months. The annual report stated that the band was progressing satisfactorily under the existing conditions, -but that on the arrival of the new instruments there was no reason .why it shonld not rank as one of the first-das bands in Auckland.
