MELBOURNE, thie day. Judge Murray recently sentenced a certain roan named Bernaaconi to a years imprisonment at Port Moresby for hanging a native boy to a rafter of his store as punishment. Bernasconi demanded to be tried by a jury. Judge Murray stated a case for the opinion of the High Court. Sir William Irvine supported the appeal, contending that under Federal law Bernasconi was entitled to a jury, and was, therefore, illegally convicted.
