DYAKS IN REBELLION.
BIG FORCE DEFEATED. THIRTY REBELS KILLED. (Received 9.10 a.m.) LONDON, March 11. A meseage from Singapore states that the Kajak of Sarawak defeated five iundred re£>el Dyaks. Thirty of the rebels were killed. Sarawak, a State on the north-west coast of the island of Borneo, is a. British Protectorate. It is governed by Rajah XL H. C. J. Brooke (who succeeded his nneSe, the faanons "Hajah Brcoke") and ■an Advisory^.Council in England. The State has a population of 600,000, composed of vauriotis races. All the officials are English. The Dyaks are the native race of Borneo. Both in appearance and other racial characteristics they resemble £he Malays. They are brqken iip into Tsrions small tribes. Formerly they Tmere head-hunters, but that practice has fctaßo6t~entirely fallen into desuetude.
