DRAIN ON THE PURSE.
GERMANY WANTS £500,000,000. HOPEFUL TALK IN BUDGET. BERLIN, March 11. The German Budget estimates the surplus for the current year at £1,000.000 and asks for a credit for £500,000,000 to finance the war until the late autumn. The Budget says that the German finances are in a more favourable state than those 'of the Allies, of whom England only has had a noteworthy loan success. No policy of starvation or strangulation, says the Budget, can cut off Germany's life breath,, and an honourable peace,' which will amply atone for'all sacrifices of the future, will be Germany's. OVERSUBSCRIBED. GREAT BRITAIN'S LATEST LOAN LONDON, March 11. Altogether, £72,750,000 has been tendered for the £50,000,000 of Exchequer bonds being issued by the Government. The average price offered is £95 18/1.
