DEMONSTRATION QUEEN ELECTED. I (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) , WHANGAREI, TAurgday. •The annual demonstration promoted by the WLaiigarei friendly societies in aia or the VVhangarei .hospital took place today, in splendid .weather, at Weaver's lark. There was a very large attendance or children aud aijults, the occasion being observed as a universal half-holiday in the district. This year all the proceeds, witii tlie accompanying Government sub»Wy, are to be devoted towards tbe estab- i lishment of a maternitjr ward, aud for ' such- a worthy object the public response I (*as been very generous. The Whaugarei ■Municipal Baud was 'in attendance, aud « this, combined with the unsparing efforts of an energetic committee, resulted ju a most successful function.
