(By Telegraph.—Special to "Star.")
WELLINGTON, thJB day.
"There are some people who have no sentiment in" these matters, but those who have—and I am one of them—protest emphatically. against the ■ burying of a murderer at.Karori," said Councillor W. Skegg.at last night's meeting'of. the suburban borough council' in that district. The reference was to the..interment in the Karori cemetery of the body of the German, Arthur Rottmann, who was executed at' the Gaol on Monday.' for the murder at Ruahine. '
CouncUlor -Skegg added- : that . the murder was a particularly brutal ■ and atrocious one, and"' he, together with others who had dear ones sleeping, in .the hallowed" grounds of peace, did not like the idea of h'avihg a murderer .buried in the vicinity. It waa not proper, and it ■would gain fof the cemetery an. unen-. viable notoriety, for people would go there .just .to." see' the grave *'of..'a 'murde'ren* " .: '.' ;'."',. -• 7 ' *:".".■ .
'.. The, Mayor, pointed out. that there .was nothing before the - council, and he did not think.it:wais a matter for the' council to' take 'any partem; The rest of • the council passed to! Vie next bueiness without coamject.
