WAIKATO'S FREEZING WORKS.

CONSTRUCTION WELL IN HAND. The site for the Waikato freezing works is now being prepared under the direction of the engineer, Mr. T. Samson. Ten drays are being ueed in connection with the work of forming the track for the three miles of. railway sidings. The ground plans for the buildings and sidings are being laid off, and arrangements are being made for the installation of the machinery. The plans for the buildings include accommodation houses for thirty or forty men.

The action of the chairman of the Newcastle Road Board in granting a quarter of an acre of land to the Auckland Fanners' Freezing Company in exchange for a shingle pit has been confirmed. The chairman of the company wrote thanking the Board, and stating that the granting of the land would enable them to finish erecting the works at an earlier date than previously expected. Incidentally. Mr. Laxon remarked that there were 8,000 head of cattle "hung up" in the Waikato because of the lack of freezing facilities. He added that in his opinion the erection of the freezing works would increase the value of land in the district to the extent of from £2 to £5 per acre.
