TAKAPUNA ROADS.
B-ESTRICTIOHS OK THE LAND SYNDICATES. TO AIM AT UNIFORMITY. . The question of whether restrictions' shall be placed on land speculators, with : a view to assuring uniformity in the matter of roading was discussed by the' Takapuna Borough Council last evening. The report of the Streets and Worla j Committee contained a recommendation' by the consulting engineer, Mr. Lockie Gannon, that in future the Council | should require persons cutting up estates to make roads that would be in conformity with the new scheme of roading approved by the Council.
The Mayor (Mr. W. Blomfield) spoke in support of the suggestion, pointing out that the adoption of the recommendation would have the effect of making syndicates who were cutting up estates allow for roads which should conform to the specifications of the various grades of roads into which the borough had been divided. In subdividing owners would have to make their charges accordingly. Mr. R S. H. Biss also spoke in support, expressing the opinion that all future roads should be specified by the Council as belonging to first, second, or third grade, and should be cut by the owners accordingly. Mr. E. E. Grimwade thought that as there were several subdivisions pending in the neighbourhood the matter was one of urgency.
Ultimately the matter was referred to a special meeting of the Council, at which other matters are to be discussed.
