RENEWAL OF DARDANELLES BOMBARDMENT
FOUR OF THE FORTS DESTROYED. SWEEPING THE STRAITS FOR MINES, fhc High t'ommisioner reports under date of February 26: — In the renewed Dardanelles bombardment four forts were completely destroyed, one of which was entirely manned by (Germans. Dragging for mines in the .Straits is being undertaken, armoured ships of the combined fleet protecting the mine-sweepers. An earlier message from the High Commissioner read: — The -"-ilniiralty states that, the weather moderating, the bombardment of the t>:!ipr forts of the Dardanelles was resumed at eight oVloek on Thursday morninc. After a period of long range fire a squadron of battleships attacked at clcte r.uige. All the forts at the entrance to the straits were successfully reduced. Operations are continuing.
