» ■- COMMITTEES APPOINTED. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) CHBJSTCHUBCH, Thursday. The Senate of the University of New Zealand resumed its sittings to-day. The chancellor (Sir Robert Stout) presided, and all the members were present. The Rev. W. Evans and Mr. Yon Haast, chairman of the Board of Governors of Canterbury College, wrote with respect to the proposal to establish a school of engineering at Auckland. It was decided to take the debate on the subject on Monday. The following committee* were appointed:—Finance, the Rev. Mr. Evans (convener), Sir Maurice O'Rorke, Dr. Fatohctt, Dr. Collins, Dr. McDowell; entrance examinations, Mr. J. W. Tibbs (convener), Mr. G. Hogben, the Rev. A. Sir Robert Stout was re-appointed Chancellor, and Sir Charles Bowen, viceChancellor, on the motion of Sir Maurice O'Rorke. 1 The Chancellor, returning thanks, said this would probably be hi last term in the position. He felt that he needed a rest. It was decided, on the motion of Professor Hight, that the Degrees Examination Committee make a recommendation on the question of modifying the statutes relating to doctorates so as to make it possible for an honours graduate in arts to proceed to a doctorate on presentation of sufficient research in any branch of any subject of the arts course.
