ACCURATE SHOOTING.

BY THE GARRISON' GUXNERB. Some particularly fine shooting is being done with .the 'big guns at the 1 Forts, -where the Territorials now on duty are being given their annual instructional training. Up to yesterday the men were doing instructional practice, in which the rapidity of the shooting k sacrificed to other considerations such as accuracy x>! details, etc. Judging from the keenness with which tihe men have been practising, and the cleverness they had shown during the instructional work, it was anticipated that the results of 'the first company practice—iniwhicfh the,men axe shooting against 'time —would foe satisfactory. The expectation was, if anything, exceeded. ■Firing at a moving target, with the 6in guns at Fort Cautley. the range being 5,000 yards, ten iiite were recorded oat of ten shots, the time being excellent— lmin 32sees. Out of fifteen shots fixed from -t-he 6in disappearing guns at the Bastion, the possible was once more recorded, the time in tihk instance being omin olseos, which is particulariy g»od considering that two per minute is more 'tlian a fair avenlge. The shooting with the 6-pounder at Fort Cautley was also mosf, satisfactory. Those in command were highly pleased with" tihe results, which are probably a record for the port. To-fray the men ore shooting with the 6-in guns ait Fort Takapuna, and the 12-pounder at North Head. Shooting will be continued until September ltfth.
