TWELVE AUSTRIAN DIVISIONS DESTROYED.
ANOTHER ARMY IN RETREAT. RUSSIANS CAPTURE A STRONG FORTRESS. fßewired 0.20 a.m.l PETJiOGKAD (Sfc Petersburg). September 8. It is officially stated that twelve Austrian divisions "nave now been completely destroyed near Lcmberg. Another Austrian army, operating on the Krasnytsov front, in the Lublin district, sustained serious losses and is now on the defensive, while it has been compelled at some points to retreat. The Russians captured strong fortifications at Mkolascff, waere the guns were mounted in armoured cupolas. The fort, guns, and a quantity of ammunition were seized. NO LONGER A FACTOR IN THE WAR. LOXDCO*. September 7. The Russians are in conflict with the Austrians near Lemberg, and have practically destroyed 12 divisions Austria's second army is also suffering severely in the region of Lublin, and is now retreating. A report from Petrograd (St. Petersburg) states that the Austrian second army is fleeing in panic. It is exported that the Russians will shortly smash the rest of the Austrian forces at Xorodok. The chief of the general staff declares that Austria is no longer a factor in the war. With 20 army corps he expects to move in a solid line to the Opoli . River, where the Germans will make their first real stand.
