WINTER SPRAYING. , ITS IMPORTANCE, It has come to be recognised by the ■ most up-to-date orchardiets that spraying fruit trees in winter and early spring is a vital necessity, if the best returns are to be obtained. It is when the trees ; are in a dormant condition, and before J the buds burst in spring, that the utmost efforts should be devoted to destroying ' the insect pests and the fungus growths which produce such heavy losses to the fruitgrowers. Too much emphasis cannot be laid upon the importance of this winter spraying, and the best men ndvise not only spraying in the winter I itself, but also in the early spring, just before the buds being to burst, a 3 it ensures a larger amount of spray on the trees during the early summer, and thus destroys any fungous growths or any f young scales from adults which may have escaped destruction. This continued nction of the spray is perhaps quite as important as its first effect.
