CROATIAN WAR FUND.
NEARLY A THOUSAND POUNDS COLLECTED. Liberal subscriptions are being seht to the Auckland Croatian War Relief Fund, and it is estimated that the sum collected in the different centres now approximates nearly £1,000. Yesterday the sum of £220 was telegraphed from Awanui, and a further £'2"2 from Ohacawai. Nearly a hundred men, trained and untrained, have volunteered to go to Europe. It is proposed by the Croatian Independence League to cable, to America inviting them to join in the movement which has for its object the proclamation of the independence of Croatia and the repudiation by Croatians abroad of allegiance to Austria-Hungary. It is pointed out that the Croatians in America have formed a well-organised and wealthy "Zadruga" or society- for the propagation of the Pan-Serb movement, and that in view of the fact that at the time of the Balkan war there were 10,000 armed American Croatians ready to join the colonrs of the allies, it may be possible to raise a strong overseas contingent of volunteere.
